The testimonial year of Aberdeenshire's Westhill Golf Club PGA Professional George Bruce reached a climax at the annual prize-giving night when he presented a defibrillator to club captain Doug Gold.
Club captain Gold praised Bruce for the gesture and it follows a nationwide campaign in which Bernard Gallacher has tried to ensure every club in the UK has one of the life-saving devices following his own brush with death two years ago.
“It was a typically generous gesture from George to want to give something back to the club, and the defibrillator will be something that hopefully won't have to be used, but will be available for the benefit of all,” said Gold.
Morvan Sherrett, of the testimonial organising committee, added:"It was always intended that part of the proceeds raised from the events marking George Bruce's long service to the club and its members during the season would go to a charity of George's choice.
“Following the Bernard Gallacher incident, when he collapsed at a function in Aberdeen, George felt it would be appropriate to donate a defibrillator to the club.
“It was sourced through the lucky2BHere charity (www.Lucky2BHere.org) who also provide free training for all club staff."
