There was a familiar look to the leaderboard after the first day of the Searles PGA Spring Classic.

Andrew George (Ely City) and his amateur partner Mick Munnelly won this tournament two years ago and snatched the halfway lead in the 2016 renewal after totting up 41 points at Kings Lynn.

George and Munnelly enjoyed the greensomes stableford format to take a slender advantage from last year's Spring Classic winner Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) and partner Darren Messenger.

The local challenge in north Norfolk is headed by Ian Ellis (Great Yarmouth & Caister) and Randy Reynolds. The duo are in a tie for third on 39 points alongside Chris Cutchie (Colchester) and Phil Clarke.

Day two sees the 44 pairs head a few miles to the stunning links at Hunstanton where the field will compete under better-ball rules.
