Newquay’s Chris Gill and Killiow’s Richard Sadler dominated the Cornwall Professional Golfers’ Alliance gathering at Mullion Golf Club.
Very strong wind and rain created tough conditions at Britain’s most southerly course, but both men battled against the conditions to card three-over-par rounds of 73 for 33 points to share first spot in a field of 80.
Grant Slater (Trevose) was third on 75 followed a stroke behind by Paul Turpin (Carlyon Bay) with Paul Martin (Carlyon Bay), Antony Nash (St Enodoc), Richard O'Hanlon (The Point Polzeath) and Dan Wood (Ivy Leaf) sharing fifth on 77.
Gill made it a happy day by finishing second with amateur John Sanders (China Fleet) on 38 points, one behind amateurs Tristan Gurd (Falmouth) and Guy Norris (Trevose). Matt Richards (West Cornwall) and Marek Churcher (Falmouth) finished third on countback.
