Robert Glazier hopes local knowledge will pay off at the Golflbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship qualifier at Torquay Golf Club.
Glazier, of Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, will be partnering host pro Jason Fullard in the event which takes place on Monday, August 1.
The pair are targeting a place in the £33,000 championship final which is supported by SkyCaddie and BMW and being staged at the Jack Nicklaus designed course at Carden Park in Cheshire between August 17-19.
And while Glazier will not be on home territory, he knows the Torquay course well and will be able to draw on Fullard’s experience of the venue plus his friend’s good form this season.
“Jason’s already made it to one final this year after he won the Lombard Trophy Natonal Pro-am qualifier at Bovey Castle,” said the Dartmouth professional.
“So he’s playing well and will of course be playing at his home club for this event so I would hope that some local knowledge will help us qualify for the final.”
Glazier made the final two years ago with Torquay assistant Glenn Oakes and will be hoping the club combination pays off again.
“I’ve known Jason for 20 years, I worked for him at Dartmouth and we’ve stayed friends ever since. It’s always good to go into these events with a good understanding of your playing partner’s game,” added Glazier, who believes the Torquay course will provide a stern test of the competitors’ short game.
“It’s a tight, tree-lined course but it’s renowned for its quick greens and that’ll be the case this time,” he added.
“I played in the final in 2014 at St Mellion but didn’t make the cut. But it’d be great to play on the Jack Nicklaus course at Carden Park this year.”
Other teams from the West due to play in the Torquay qualifier are: Welsh pairing Elliot Harding and Matthew Hearne (Milford Haven Golf Club); Paul Gravell and Mark Brookes (Players Golf Club); Timothy Elliott and Luke Collins (Tall Pines Golf Club); Dom Narramore and Jonathan Elsdon (Dorset Golf & Country Club) and Simon Swales (Radyr Golf Club)and Graham Laing (North Wilts Golf Club).
