Glenmuir has revealed its pride at seeing Great Britain & Ireland’s PGA Cup team make history while wearing their clothing.
The Lanarkshire-based firm Glenmuir, and PGA Partner, supplied the shirts, knitwear and accessories while Sunderland of Scotland supplied the outerwear for the victorious team who beat the United States for the first time on US soil at CordeValle, California.
Glenmuir’s managing director, Mikhel Ruia said: “Glenmuir focuses on crafting the finest golfwear designed to perform in varying playing conditions and climates.
“The matches really tested the thermo regulating properties of our moisture wicking performance shirts as well as our lightweight merino knitwear allowing the GB&I team to maintain comfortable and well ventilated in temperatures which reached 100 degrees F in California.
“The Sunderland of Scotland outerwear layering items played a key role in allowing the players to warm up on the range and practice days.
“We are one of the last remaining truly British golf brands and we see ourselves as the team behind the team, which really motivates our 95-strong workforce here in Lanark, Scotland.”
Sandy Jones, The PGA's Chief Executive, added: “The performance of the Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team was one of the finest in the history of the matches and was more than matched by Glenmuir and Sunderland of Scotland who designed clothing that not only looked the part but also proved extremely comfortable in searing temperatures.
“The PGA is proud to enjoy a longstanding relationship with Glenmuir and Sunderland of Scotland and we look forward to future successes both on and off the course.”
Commenting on the matches GB&I Team captain Jon Bevan of Rhos on Sea Golf Club, North Wales commented: “Our overseas success was down to many things. One of which was the wonderful apparel we wore for the match. The standard and styling of all the clothing was only matched by the wonderful location and the team’s performance.
“Our players adored the powerful colours, stylish embroidery and the feeling of dressing for success. We would all put our stamp of approval and trust in Glenmuir and Sunderland of Scotland clothing.” Vice-captain Albert Mackenzie of Saunton Golf Club, Devon added: “To be victorious was always going to be special but to be victorious accompanied by comfortable and stylish elegance made the victory all the sweeter.
“It was a privilege for us all to be draped in Glenmuir and Sunderland of Scotland.”
On the future of the brand whose 125th anniversary will take place in 2016, Ruia added: “Having supplied the GB&I PGA Cup team for many years is a great honour for Glenmuir and Sunderland of Scotland.
“We believe this further reinforces Glenmuir’s support for the club professional and our commitment to crafting the finest golf apparel for all levels of the game.”
