An exciting dimension to this year’s ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship at Stoke by Nayland from June 5-8 comes in the shape of a special swing zone aimed at giving disabled people the chance to try golf.

Anyone with a disability who fancies a crack at golf is encouraged to come along and receive skilled tuition from PGA pro Craig Thomas, (pictured above right), who is lead coach coordinator for the ISPS Handa PGA Academy programme.

The ISPS Handa programme equips PGA pros with the skills to coach a range of disabilities and with more than 200 pros already trained, more opportunities are springing up for disabled golfers.

“Anyone who wants to try golf, no matter what their disability, is welcome to come along have a go in a relaxed and fun environment at Stoke by Nayland,” said Thomas.

“The PGA Seniors Championship is not only a great opportunity to see fantastic golfers like Sam Torrance and Mark James, it is also an ideal platform for disabled people to come along with their families and have a go themselves.

“In addition it is an opportunity to gain information and find out about disabled golf. I’m more than happy to speak to families and give them help in finding out where they can access golf in their areas.”

In the build-up to the event on Wednesday, June 4, Thomas will be running a clinic on the driving range to showcase the skills of disabled golfers and just how well they can play the game.

** If any families want to call Craig Thomas to find out more about disabled golf he is happy to speak to them and can be contacted on 07973 798483.
