The Golf Show has underlined its support for PGA pros by donating a £5,000 cheque to the PGA Benevolent Fund.

Established at the founding of the Association back in 1901, the charity continues to assist members in hardship or distress and each year offers help and support in a number of ways.

The fund remains an important element of The PGA’s work and is one of the nine principles in its Raising our Game project.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones (centre) welcomed the donation, saying: “As the average age of our members rises and sadly in today’s world our younger members face increasing health challenges, there is a greater requirement for support, which the Benevolent Fund provides. This kind donation is greatly appreciated and will be put to extremely good use.”

Eddie Reid, managing director of TGI Golf Partnership, (left) added: “Through the PGA Benevolent Fund and this donation the PGA Professionals of today have the opportunity to help out those fellow pros who, through no fault of their own, have fallen on hard times."

Foremost Golf chief executive, Paul Hedges, (right) himself a PGA pro, commented: “From my point of view I have been a PGA pro since 1979 and The PGA do a fantastic job in supporting golf pros but inevitably there are some that get into difficulty or fall on hard times.

“The PGA Benevolent Fund does a wonderful job in helping such pros and there is a natural synergy between this show which supports pros in their business lives and the Benevolent Fund which helps those less fortunate and I can’t think of a better charity for the Golf Show to contribute to.”
