Jack Yetton (Acushnet Limited) and his amateur partner Mike Crowe surged to a convincing victory in the Summer Classic in north Norfolk.

Over two days at Royal Cromer and Sheringham the pair tallied 87 points – four better than three other pairs who tied for second.

Yetton, who trained as a PGA professional at Royston, and 10-handicapper Crowe are regional sales managers for Titleist.

And the duo were clearly singing from the same hymn-sheet on the two stunning coastal courses, racking up daily counts of 42 and 45.

The second round, played at Sheringham under a better-ball format, saw them pass overnight leaders Tim Cooper (Newton Green) and Gary Borthwick before powering clear.

Yetton, 32, said: “We both bogeyed the first at Sheringham but after that we dovetailed so well. We both had putts for three points the majority of holes.

“Mike birdied the hardest hole – the fifth – and parred the second hardest hole, the 10th. So there was seven points.  And I birdied the second, eighth and 12.”

Yetton also came to the fore down the closing stretch when a headwind wind was making 16, 17 and 18 all challenging holes. He kept the ship steady with a string of solid pars to seal victory.

The Bourn Golf Club member added: “It was a fantastic experience, I must admit. It’s probably my first true win within the East region or any of the events I’ve played. I’m really chuffed that we did it.

“Royal Cromer and Sheringham were in tremendous condition and the greens were superb on both courses – incredibly true, nice and fast. It was a couple of very good days.”

Jason Groat (Denver) and Alison Groat were the other big movers on the second day, rising from ninth to a share of second place. They followed up their opening 39 points under a greensomes format with 44 at Sheringham.

Also tied for second spot were Kevin Crossland (Worksop) and Bryony Pettifor and Sam Teer (Clacton) and Craig Bruce.
