Cirencester‘s Ed Goodwin continued his run of impressive form since the turn of the year with his second win in three weeks from a bogey-free three –under-par 69 at Clevedon.
But he didn’t have it all his own way as he did at Minehead as Chipping Sodbury‘s Giuseppe Licata already held the clubhouse lead on the same mark.
Heavy overnight rain left the course very wet in places as Licata set the early pace with three birdies in his opening seven holes. But he suffered a setback when he double bogeyed Clevedon’s signature Castle drop hole.
He steadied his round with back to back birdies at the 12th and 13th for his fourth win of the season.
Goodwin made birdies at the seventh, 10th and 12th for his third success this winter. He remains14 points behind Licata in the Total Triumph Order of Merit race.
Enmore Park’s Matt Kippen – one of two amateurs in the field - the other being Somerset cricketer Pete Trego - was third on 70.
Robin Goodey (Chipping Sodbury) and Weston’s Dan Toogood shared fourth on 70, two ahead of Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court).
