Barnehurst’s Jordan Godwin slammed the door on his rivals with an emphatic course record final round of five-under-par 65 to win The PGA in Kent Championship at Knole Park.
Shooting rounds of 67 and 65 for an eight-under-par 132, Godwin finished three strokes ahead of runner up Adam Clough (PGolfCoaching@Pedham).
Four more strokes adrift on 139 was the third-placed duo of Tim Milford (PGolfCoaching@Pedham) whose afternoon round matched Godwin’s course record, and home PGA Head Professional Andrew Butterfield (Knole Park).
The Shepherd Neame supported championship was Godwin's fourth win in three weeks. He said: "I’m enjoying a good run of form at the moment and being behind in the in the morning, only made me dig deeper for those birdies after lunch. Knole Park was in super shape considering the rain earlier in the week.”
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Godwin, who opened two-over-par after four holes before finding his birdie gear to finish the morning on two-under-par 67, a stroke behind the 66 of first round leader Clough.
Godwin repeated his bogey start in the afternoon round, but five birdies by the turn kept him within a stroke of Clough who’d gone out in a matching 32.
But a double bogey at the 11th put Clough a shot behind Godwin, and while Godwin birdied the 17th and finished with his closing 65, Clough doubled his final hole to finish three behind in second spot.
Milo King (American Golf Canterbury) and Tom Jordan (Langley Park) both shot one-over-par 141 to tie for the Leading Trainee prize.
