Goodwin wins Charity Fundraiser of the Year award

02/08/2021

Ed Goodwin, the head professional at Cirencester Golf Club, has been named PGA South West’s 2020 Fundraiser of the Year after generating more than £7,000 for charity.

Two local charities have benefitted from Goodwin’s efforts, one of which is very close to his heart and those of two Cirencester members.

“We raised £4,500 for the Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham,” Goodwin explained.

“They looked after my mother when she passed away in June last year as well as the husbands of two of my club’s members.

“The remaining cash, which was raised in 2019, has gone to the James Hopkins Trust in Gloucester. That provides respite care for children whose life is limited or threatened.

“Probably like all charities, they have struggled financially during Covid because it’s been difficult if not impossible to hold fundraising events.”

Goodwin raised the cash by holding a couple of charity golf days and a few raffles and plans are in hand to continue the fundraising this year.

“We’ll be supporting Sue Ryder again,” he added. “And the pro shop charity day is scheduled to take place in September.”
