Aberdonian Scott Henderson, Kings Links Golf Centre's long-serving tour pro, scored his first Order of Merit tournament win for quite some time in a tight finish to the Rowallan Castle 36-hole OOM Challenge at the Kilmaurs, Ayrshire venue today.
Henderson had five birdies (short fifth, seventh, short eighth, long 13th and 14th, offset by two bogeys (fourth and 11th) in halves of 33 (two under) and 35 (one under) for a three-under-par 68 to add to his opening 70.
His four-under-par total of 138 won him the £1,200 first prize by one shot from Steven O'Hara (North Lanarkshire Leisure) who had the round of the day, a five-under-par 66, which could not quite make up the leeway after a first-round 73.
O'Hara had an eagle 3 at the par-5 third and five birdies in halves of 32 and 34.
His third bogey of the day came at the 18th which cost him a play-off against Henderson. Steven had to settle for the £900 runner-up prize.
Sam Binning (Mearns Castle Golf Academy) earned £700 for third place on 140 (71-69). He parred the last six holes after birdies at the third, fourth, 10th and 12th in halves of 35-34.
Overnight co-leaders Paul McKechnie and Gareth Wright failed to break par at the final attempt. Wright, with only one birdie on his card, had a 72 for 141 and a share of fourth place for a £332.50 payslip.
McKechnie had five birdies but also a triple bogey 7 at the 11th and double bogey 5s at two short holes, the second and the eighth, in scoring a 73 for 142 and a share of eighth place for a £200 reward.
