Vincent Guest made a perfect start to the second and final round in PGA in England and Wales (North) east qualifying school at Normanton.
The Teesside-attached professional, who tied for the lead overnight after an opening level par 72, edged ahead of the field when he birdied the first two holes at the Wakefield club.
He gave the shots back after dropping one at the fourth then double bogeying the seventh. But a brace of birdies in a row from the ninth and another four holes later helped him to regain the lead, despite a lapse at the 16th, as he signed for a 71.
Jamie Ashworth, representing American Golf, was a shot behind in second place as the top 20 players qualified on 157 or better.
They will join the 40 who passed the test at Bolton last week and will be eligible to compete in all the Order of Merit events this season.
