Ben Wall (Winchester Golf Academy) won the PGA in Hampshire Open Championship at Hayling Golf Club.

The annual tournament, played on Hayling’s fantastic links course, attracted a field of 36 PGA Professionals and 33 amateurs (playing off scratch).

Despite the hot conditions, Wall kept his cool to win the Championship by three shots thanks to scores of 65 and 67 (11-under-par). Lewis Scott (Paultons Golf Centre) and Sam Hutsby (Lee-on-the-Solent Golf Club) finished tied second.

Commenting on his win, Wall said: “We all had a fantastic day at Hayling; my putting was on fire all day and I had a great battle with joint runner-up, Sam Hutsby, during our two rounds.

“My ball striking was solid and fortunately I didn’t make many mistakes. Local knowledge also helped me get over the line.”

This year’s event was sponsored by Paulton’s Golf Centre, Bramshaw Golf Club the Bell Inn at Bramshaw and The Peter Cooper Motor Group.

A statement released by all four sponsor read: "We are delighted to have been the headline sponsor for this fantastic event as it represented the perfect opportunity to support our local PGA Professionals and elite players.

“It also allowed us to showcase the great work we have achieved at Paultons Golf Centre and at the same time celebrate our acquisition of Bramshaw Golf Club and raise awareness of the reopening of The Bell Inn."

The Salver for leading amateur went to Hayling Golf Club member Toby Burden with a scores of 71 and 67 (4-under-par).
