Scott Richards enjoyed his best day with the Cornwall Professional Golfers’ Alliance during a double victory at Trevose.
Truro’s head professional carded a two-under 69 worth 38 Stableford points to take the individual professional honours in a field of 96 playing in a mostly dry day with a keen breeze.
He finished one shot clear of Russell Binney (St Austell) and James Ruth (China Fleet) with the prolific Richard Sadler (Killiow) and Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew) a further shot adrift.
He also linked up with amateur colleague Simon Bray to win the pairs event. They scored 45 points to win by two from Sadler and Steve Ashby (Killiow). Geoff Jones/Martin Biddle (St Enodoc), Paul Turpin/Will Sumner (Carlyon Bay) and Grant Slater/Nick Gammon (Trevose) tied on 41.
Richards grew up at West Cornwall Golf Club and turned professional at the club in 1993. After seven years at the Kendleshire in Bristol he returned to his native county in 2005 as head pro at Cape Cornwall and later coached at Carlyon Bay. He succeeded long-serving Nigel Bicknell at Truro.
