Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew) overcame demanding conditions to continue his fine form and win the Cornwall Professional Golfers’ Alliance meeting at West Cornwall.
The very strong north-west wind troubled all 84 players who found club selection a nightmare over the testing links and there were only three twos on a high-scoring day.
O'Hanlon, fresh from winning a place at the BMW PGA Championship, fought his way to a four-over-par 76, worth 32 Stableford points. That brought a one shot advantage over Grant Slater (Trevose) with Paul Turpin (Carlyon Bay) third on 30 and Russell Binney (St Austell) and Mark Rowe (Carlyon Bay) a further shot behind.
Turpin and Spike Drew (Truro) won the pairs with 39 points, two better than Alliance captain Chris Gill and his amateur partner Carl White (Newquay) who beat Slater and Mike Hawke (Carlyon Bay) on countback.
