Midlander Richard O’Hanlon continued his success in his adopted county by winning the Jack Gale pro-am at Tehidy Park by one shot from four challengers.

It made back-to-back victories for The Point at Polzeath professional at the Cornwall venue, as he also won the event last year.

He started perfectly with birdies at the first, fourth, tenth and 11th before he dropped his only shot at the 12th. But he completed his round in level par to finish with a three-under score of 68.

James Ruth (St Mellion), who has made a successful return to the region, threatened to take the course apart by making an eagle two at the fourth and another with three at the sixth, but his round lacked consistency.

He dropped three shots in four holes from the 12th to add to bogeys five and seven. He added birdies at the tenth and 16th to sign for 69.

Kevin Harper (Sidmouth), who is coming to terms with a swing change, made three birdies and dropped only one shot. John Goymer’s trip from Somerset was worthwhile as he was the fourth player to join the runners up.

The highlight of his round that contained two birdies and two bogeys was an eagle three at the tenth.

Adam Frayne (Yelverton) was three under after six holes but shed a shot at the seventh. After nine more pars he made a four at the short 17th but a final birdie maintained his second spot.

Harper led Car Lettings trio Trevor Johnson, Chris Johnson and Spike Drew to the team prize on 86 points, winning on countback from O'Hanlon, John Alton, Tom Crocker and Pat Coombe with the Reckitt Two team of David Langford, Steve Retallick and Andy Gill, led by Trethorne’s Wayne Basford, a further shot behind in third.
