PGA Cup captain Jon Bevan enjoys occasional return trips to the West despite moving to North Wales three years ago and his second visit this season proved more lucrative than his April stay at the Cornish Festival.

The Rhos on Sea player pocketed more than £830 by winning the Cotswold Hills pro-am in sensational style. He did not make a single par over the back nine. His six-under 30 contained an eagle at the 13th, six birdies and two bogeys at 14 and 15.

Added to the blemish-free opening two-under 34 he posted eight-under 64 to leave Cheltenham’s Russell Berry (Professional Golf Europe) and former European Tour man Stuart Little  (Minchinhampton New) two shots behind.

Consistent Berry produced the only flawless round on the sunny day carding 34 out and 32 coming home featuring two further birdies and an eagle at 13. Little made seven birdies and dropped one shot.

Challenge Tour player Lee Corfield (Burnham and Berrow) made eagles at the 13th and 16th to shoot 67 and finish fourth.

In-form Joe Ferguson (Celtic Manor) was a further shot back while Tom Motley (South Cerney) returned to Cheltenham to share sixth with Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Club/Asbri Golf) on 69.

Sixteen players took advantage of the superb condition of the course and the benign weather to equal or better par.

Little led the winning home team in 15-under-par 129. Ferguson headed the Briscoe trio in second spot a shot behind.

They beat the Turier Scales team of home Newport-Black family members on countback with Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre), Bevan’s former colleague at his Weymouth base, at the helm.
