Darren Murphy wasted no time in plotting Harborne Golf Club’s route to the Grand Final of the 2021 PGA National Pro-Am Championship by becoming the first club to enter this year’s tournament.
Murphy will be representing Harborne once again in the eagerly awaited return of the Championship, which returns this year following a two-year hiatus.
The 50-year-old has narrowly missed out on a spot in the Grand Final in the past, but he has high hopes of progressing in 2021 and winning an all-expenses paid trip to the stunning PGA National Turkey Antalya Golf Club.
“I've narrowly missed out on making the final a few times over the years so I'm hoping to turn those second and third-place finishes into a win,” said Murphy, who has entered Harborne into the second Regional Final at Foxhills Club & Resort on 2nd June.
“The PGA National Pro-Am Championship is a big event on The PGA national schedule and I’ve always tried to enter early to choose a Regional Final that provides something special to the member who wins the club qualifying medal.

“It's a great tournament which is run superbly well by The PGA tournament staff. It's a great way for the members and the PGA Professional to build relationships and create some real excitement about the golfing season ahead for minimal cost.
“Foxhills Club & Resort is a destination golf course that most of my members won't have played, so it acts as a nice reward for their efforts in winning the club qualifier.
“We have a lot of competitive golfers at Harborne and playing in this huge event with a PGA Professional is a big member benefit.
“The qualifying medal will likely be one of the busiest competitions of the season as I'm sure everyone will want to make it to Foxhills, and then hopefully onto the finals in Turkey.”

The PGA National Pro-Am Championship is Europe’s largest pro-am and sees both male and female amateurs aged 18 or over compete for the title of ‘National Pro-Am Champions’.
Its 36-hole Grand Final will be staged at The PGA National Turkey in November and feature a dozen pairs who have qualified via one of 12 regional tournaments held across the UK and Ireland.
PGA Professionals will be competing for a share of the £25,000 prize fund and there are also highly coveted prizes for amateurs at both Regional and Grand Final stages of the tournament.
Asked what it would mean to Harborne should the club progress to the Grand Final, Murphy added: “It would be fantastic.
“Harborne has already made it to the final of the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge which is due to be played at The Belfry later this year so there's a real buzz around the club. It would be great to make it to two PGA national finals in a row.”
