Kevin Harper (Sidmouth) knew exactly what he had to do to keep up with playing partner Paul Hendriksen (Dinnaton) in the Devon PGA meeting at Tavistock.

The competitive pair kept a close eye on each other in the penultimate group until the result was resolved on the 17th where Harper made his fourth birdie, making three on the 399-yard hole to draw level.

The pair parred the final hole and shared the honours with rounds of one-under-par 70 worth 37 stableford points.

Hendriksen made a swift start with three birdies in the first six holes and made another at the par-five 15th. But he also dropped three shots.

Harper’s downfall was the 11th which he double-bogeyed and he also shed a shot at the long par-three 14th.

Adam Frayne (Tavistock) was third on 35 while Harry Mayers (Torbay Golf Centre), who eagled the opening hole, his boss Neil Holman, Dan Hendriksen (Torquay), Tom Jessamine (Woodbury Park) and Jason Fullard (Torquay) shared fourth on 34.
