Jamie Harris shot a superb three-under-par 66 to win the Betchworth Park Pro-Am by one stroke from David Callaway (Foxhills) and David Osborn (West Hill).
Currently lying third in The PGA in England (South) prize money list, Harris added a further £800 to his prize fund haul for 2014, marking his 13th top ten finish out of 18 regional events played this season.
Starting at the 10th, his 66 included four birdies and an eagle at the 18th, while three bogeys on his back nine underlined the challenge that the Colt-designed course still presents.
With the eagle at the 18th putting him three-under-par at the turn, Harris quickly reached four-under after ten holes. A bumpy ride ensued with three bogeys and a birdie, but undaunted Harris managed to put in a winning finish with one last birdie at the ninth to put him in the lead.
Starting at the first, Callaway had a birdie at the ninth and a bogey at the 11th, and remained on level par after 16 holes, but he put in a terrific finish with birdies at the 17th and 18th to finish with a 67 to tie for second.
At the back of the field, Osborn was in great shape on three-under-par at the turn, and a dropped shot at the 14th was repaired with a birdie at the penultimate hole, but a six down the par five 18th snatched away his chances of sharing or even taking victory.
Harris was delighted with his return to winning form, commenting: “My form dropped off a bit after winning at Wildernesse, but it all came together nicely today.
“The weather was ideal and as usual the course and the greens were in great shape, but like everywhere else this year the rough was penal and keeping the ball in play on the fairways was key. I was really pleased to recover from a poor run through my back nine to make what turned out to be the winning five-foot putt for a birdie on my final hole.”
The next event in the Virgin Atlantic Little Red PGA South 2014 Order of Merit is the PGA Surrey Open at Kingswood on the 30th and 31st of July.
