Health and Safety - What do you really know?

Safety First PS

Appropriate health and safety procedures is an absolute MUST for every golf facility! The need for PGA Professionals to understand and be able to adequately interpret the regulations in the workplace is paramount in today’s business world. With this in mind, we are delighted to announce a one-day seminar titled ‘Health & Safety: What you really need to know’ with industry expert, John Ross.

According to John “Just hearing the words ‘Health and Safety’ causes most people to stop in their tracks. In our heads it is no longer about straight forward common sense, much more a catchphrase to define a jobs worth, or a readymade excuse for not doing something. This, of course, is simply not the case. By attending this course you will have a clearer understanding of how safety law works and what you have to do to satisfy that duty both as an employee and as an employer. You will know to whom you have a duty of care, what that duty involves, and where that duty ends! Furthermore when you are told you have to do something on health and safety grounds, or maybe even that you can’t do something on safety grounds, you may just be able to clarify reality!

The fact is golf as a game is not risk free, nor will it ever be. What golf clubs need to know is how does it manage that risk, how can it mitigate liability and show that it has done all it can? There is a history of accidents on golf courses but very few end up in court, why is this? By looking at legal precedents we can see why some succeed and others fail, again like ‘safety law’ it is not as complicated as you think. Once you have an understanding of the claim structure you are so much better placed to manage your responsibilities.”

John is widely regarded as an expert in the area of health and safety and this seminar provides a great opportunity to learn about a very important subject at the specially subsidised rate of £50 + VAT for PGA Members.
