Stephen Gray leads the field by three strokes with one round to play in the Tartan Tour's Tomatin Single Malt Pro-Am.

The Hayston man impressed over the 54-hole tournament, which is being played over three days at Royal Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart.

He shot a three-under 67 at Dornoch, followed by a seven-birdie, four-under 68 at Castle Stuart, currently sitting on seven-under 135 with his final round still to play over the Nairn links.

His closest rival James McKinnon (Irvine) will now have to make up the leeway on a different course, the par-70 Royal Dornoch.

McKinnon has so far shot a par-72 at Castle Stuart and an excellent six-under 66 at Nairn.

In third place is Welsh PGA Cup player Gareth Wright (West Linton) who has had a 67 and 72 for 139.

The round of the second day was a seven-under-par 65 by Greg McBain (Gamola Golf) at Castle Stuart. Strictly on numerical order, McBain is joint sixth on 141. He plays Nairn for his last round.

The fact that the top 10 or 12 players will be spread over three different courses means that there could well be a major upheaval in the overnight standings - but Gray looks a hot favourite for the big first prize.
