Heath follows Fowler at TPC Sawgrass

Former European Tour player James Heath (above right) emulated Rickie Fowler by winning at TPC Sawgrass – just six days after the American landed the PLAYERS Championship.

However fine rounds of 63 and 64 enabled Heath to enjoy the luxury of a comfortable five shot victory in the Sawgrass Classic Pro-Am which was in contrast to Fowler’s tense three man play-off victory.

The pro-am was played across four courses in the Ponte Vedra Beach area with the final round at The PLAYERS Stadium Course.

Perfect weather again contributed to some excellent scoring, notably from Heath whose superb 63 and 64 in rounds two and three allowed him to cruise to his second victory in the event. Alps Tour player Jason Kelly was second, and the defending champion James Ablett from Lee-on-the-Solent Golf Club was third.

In the pro-am team event consistent golf from Ablett’s team led to a 10 shot victory over Heath’s team in second, and Jamie Harris’ team third.

During the event, a Challenge Day was also held at the PLAYERS Stadium Course where tournament organiser, John Hooper, challenged the professionals to break 80 from the back “TPC” tees.

Successful professionals are rewarded with an additional $200 bonus, and at the end of the day five professionals broke 80, including best of the day Harris, along with Phil Golding, Kelly, Ablett and Ryan Fitzgerald.
