Paul Hendriksen hit the birdie trail to fire Devon into the final of the PGA England & Wales Inter-County Championship for the first time.

The Ivybridge pro carded eight birdies in a five under par 66 at the regional qualifier at Tiverton Golf Club.

His effort helped Devon team-mates Christian Vine (Wodbury Park) and Richard Woods (Dainton Park) secure a spot in the £10,000 final being staged at the Belfry’s PGA National Course from October 18-19.

With the two best scores from three counting, Hendriksen’s and Vine’s one over 72 gave them a 138 total which was more than enough to see off the challenge of nearest rivals Gloucestershire and Somerset and South Wales by six shots.

Hendriksen was forced to miss this event last year due to his PGA Cup commitments but relished the chance to represent the county again.

“I used to play a lot of amateur golf for Devon for about six or seven years and always enjoyed representing the county so it’s nice to get the chance to do it again,” he said.

“I like playing team golf and it would be great if we could Devon on the honours roll for this event.”
