There’s no stopping Dinnaton Golf Club’s Paul Hendriksen who is fast becoming the player of the season in the West.
His latest triumph was claiming the Fourball Championship at Teign Valley partnered by James Ruth (China Fleet), another player who has imposed himself in the region once more this year.
They took the £1,900 first prize after a flawless 36-hole return of 19-under-par 121 from rounds of 61 and 60 over the attractive Devon course. The secret was in not dropping one shot over two sunny days where the fairways were running at lightning pace.
Hendriksen posted 11 birdies while Ruth added six plus an eagle three at the 13th in the first round.
Former Welsh amateur international Hendriksen is enjoying a fantastic season. He won the Total Triumph Classic at Oake Manor, the opening Order of Merit tournament, and finished sixth in the Dudsbury Masters after a major triumph in the Titleist-Footjoy PGA Championship at Burnham and Berrow.
Home teaching James Maxwell joined Paul Jones (Canford Magna) for the first time to claim second three shots behind from returns of 61 and 63.
But they were chased by St Kew pair Max Billingsley and Richard O'Hanlon who were one shot further back in third. O’Hanlon even recorded an albatross two at the 506-yard downhill par five eighth hole although two late dropped shots at the 16th and 17th proved costly.
Josh Hancock, the young Newquay assistant playing with Dartmouth’s Scott Edwards, also carded an albatross at the eighth on the second day.
There were 18 eagles on the first day and a flurry of birdies in perfect scoring conditions.
Dan Carter (Upavon) and Barry Forster (North Wilts), the 2013 champions, Parkstone pair Martyn Thompson and expert putter Alice Davis, who proved a more-than-useful replacement for usual partner Michael Watson who was playing in the Europro event at Cumberwell Park, Liam O'Sullivan (South Cerney) and Ross McCance (Chippenham Golf Centre) and former winners Dudsbury's Mark Wiggett and Lee Thompson shared fourth on 126.
