Henry mounts second day charge to win Strathaven 36-hole Challenge

John Henry mounted a second day offensive and captured the Arnold Clark Tartan Tour’s 36-hole Order of Merit Challenge at Strathaven.

Two off the pace heading into the final round, Henry fired a bogey-free seven-under 64 for a 13-under 129 and won by two ahead of overnight leader, Greg Dalziel.

Henry was quick out of the blocks and birdies at two, four and five got the Clydebank man off and running in what turned out to be a two-man race.

Henry kept the foot down and further birdies at the eighth, 10^th, 14^th and 16^th swept him towards a first Order of Merit win and the top prize of £1,600.

Dalziel had surged to the front on day one with a sizzling 63 and despite an early bogey to start round two, he recovered with birdies at three, seven, eight and nine to stay in the hunt.

His title tilt suffered a damaging blow on the back-nine, however, and a brace of bogeys at the 11^th and 12^th proved costly in the final analysis.

Chris Maclean and Paul McKechnie shared third place on eight-under while Tartan Tour No 1 Paul O’Hara, a 36-hole Order of Merit winner at Stirling, was fifth on seven-under.

Graeme Robertson, who recently added the Northern Open title to the Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA Championship crown he won last year, signed off with a 65 to share sixth on six-under.

Craig Lee, fresh from a triumphant romp in The PGA Professional Championship at Conwy, had to settle at tied for 12^th on three-under.
