David Higgins has spoken about the excitement building inside the Great Britain & Ireland camp with less than 24 hours to go until the start of the 28th PGA Cup.
Foxhills Club and Resort is the venue for the 28th meeting between Great Britain & Ireland and America.
Both sides have been getting to grips with the Longcross Course at the Surrey venue throughout the week, and with just one sleep to go, Higgins has revealed the hosts are ready to defend the Llandudno International Trophy.
“We’re trying not to get too excited,” said Higgins, “But we can feel that it’s getting closer to kick-off and we’re all ready.
“We’ve had great practice, there hasn’t been a stone unturned and we feel good, it’s just a case of staying nice and relaxed and there’s certainly a good vibe in the camp.
“I think we’re ready, I really do, I think we’re in good shape.”
The Longcross course will provide a tough test for both sides this weekend, and with the Americans motivated to win back the trophy after losing in California two years ago, Higgins knows his team must be at their best.
He continued: “We came here (Foxhills) over a month ago to get a bit of practice in and a bit of preparation.
“The course has changed a little since then and I think it suits all of our games. It’s tight of the tee and we’re all good straight hitters.
“The Americans lost last time out so they’re going to be gunning to win this thing. We know what’s coming but there’s a good group of ten lads, one good captain and two vice-captains.
“We’re all up for this. It means everything to us. This is a big weekend and we’re going to give it everything. We want to win this.”
Asked what it meant for Higgins to represent his country again, he added: “It’s a huge honour, it really is and we’re all proud to be here.
“For me I haven’t played for Great Britain & Ireland for many years so it’s a step up. You’re not out here on your own, you’re representing your family, your fellow PGA Professionals and friends, so this is big.”
