Higgins maintains strong start to season

David Higgins carded a three-under-par round of 67 to win the Murray Timber Group Athenry Pro-Am in association with Investec.
The Waterville professional, a recent winner at the Greystones Pro-Am, edged out Noel Murray (Massereene) and Donal Gleeson (Old Conna) by a shot at Athenry GC in Co Galway.
The 42-year-old made a poor start to his round with a dropped shot at the first but responded with birdies at the fourth and sixth to go to the turn in one-under 34.
He played some solid golf on the back nine, adding seven pars and collecting birdies at the 15th and 18th to come home in two-under 33.
The team event was won by Masereene GC professional David Hughes and amateur partners David Burke, Tom Hanley and Anthony Samuels.
