Higson and Nixon enjoy links effect in Tomatin Highland Pro-Am

05/10/2021

Tom Higson and Matthew Nixon set a sprightly early pace on day one of the Tomatin Highland Links 54-hole Pro-Am.

In an event that rotates around the three terrific courses of Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Nairn, Higson and Nixon both posted seven-under scores to lead the way.

At Dornoch, Nixon finished with a flourish and reeled off three birdies on his last four holes to propel himself to the front with a 65

Higson’s 64 at Castle Stuart, meanwhile, featured six birdies in a row from the seventh. The Gleneagles pro saw that blistering surge tempered with bogeys at 13 and 14 but he rallied on the run-in and made further gains at 16, 17 and 18 to jump into a tie at the top.

Nixon and Higson lead by a shot from Michael Bullen, Gavin Hay and Arnold Clark Tartan Tour Order of Merit winner Paul O’Hara.

In the team stableford event, East Renfrewshire pro Hay and the amateur trio of Damien Simpson, Sarah Simpson and Trevor Jones were leading the way with 98 points.
