Home win for Vinnicombe

Bedford and County Golf Club head PGA Professional Steve Vinnicombe put local knowledge to good use as he won the pro-am over his home course.

Vinnicombe carded a bogey-free round of 66 – four-under-par – to triumph by a shot. He edged out his own trainee Nicholas Cunningham and Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows), both of whom shot 67.

Vinnicombe birdied two holes on the front nine to get his victory bid rolling. He was just as polished down the stretch, picking up two more shots to take the spoils.

It was Vinnicombe’s first appearance on this season’s PGA in England (East) tournament schedule.

And he capped a fine day by also leading his team to a convincing victory. They finished on a tally of 124, five better than their nearest rivals.
