Honours even at Balmore as Forsyth erases Currie's lead

17/05/2021

Alastair Forsyth and Chris Currie shared the spoils in the latest Arnold Clark-sponsored Tartan Tour event – the 36-hole Order of Merit Challenge at Balmore Golf Club - after the former recovered lost ground in the final round.

Currie, a member of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland 2017 PGA Cup team, posted a four-under-par total of 62 to lead the tournament at the end of round one.

It also left him a shot clear of Forsyth, the 2019 Titleist and FootJoy PGA Professional Championship winner who represents Mearns Castle Golf Academy.

And there was no hint of Forsyth (above) retrieving the deficit or putting daylight between him and his rival from Erskine Golf Club when he bogeyed the first hole at the start of the second circuit.

He atoned with a birdie at the fifth but Currie, who recorded three birdies tempered by a brace of bogeys, had doubled his lead when he reached the turn.

Forsyth erased that with birdies at 10 and 11 and, with Currie negotiating the back nine in level par, the pair finished level on five-under for the tournament and each earned £1.150.

Currie and Forsyth now lie second and third respectively behind Paul O’Hara in the Arnold Clark-sponsored Order of Merit and have reduced his lead thanks to their shared victory.

O’Hara, however, limited the damage on day two by equalling the best round of the tournament posted by Currie on day one.

Having ended the first round on one-over, O’Hara responded with one of four-under to finish third, two shots adrift of the winners.
