Stowmarket’s Andrew Robinson and Lee Cocker of The Essex Golf and Country Club shared top prize in the Colchester Golf Club Invitational pro-am.

Both players fired five birdies, and dropped one shot each, on the way to carding rounds of four-under-par 66.

Robinson said: “The course was in excellent condition. There was plenty of run on the fairways but the greens were soft which was good for scoring.”

It was tight at the top of the leaderboard with Darren Charlton (Dunstable Downs), Mark Baker (Colchester) and Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) all signing for three-under-par. Charlton had an unblemished round with three birdies.

In a field of 48 there were 12 players under par. The four on two-under were Ian Ellis (Costessey Park, Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall), Mark Davis (Thorndon Park) and Daniel Poulter (Kartel Golf).

And Andrew Pestell (Chelmsford), Chris Smith (Fynn Valley) and Jason Levermore (Channels) all finished one-under-par.

Paul Wilby of Haverhill, Chairman of Suffolk PGA, led the winning team of Mike Duley, Tim Moriarty and Duncan Turner to a round of 17-under-par 123.

Second and third team prizes were settled on count back between two teams with 16-under-par. Cocker, Daniel Eke, Jacob Farson and Sam Latta took second prize. Brett Taylor (Brett Taylor Golf), Ian Devenish, Simon Larner and Stuart Macaulay were third.
