How to increase your reach using Instagram

29/01/2024

Instagram reels are short, engaging videos that allow users to create and share content. More than 2.3 billion people interact with reels every month and they get 22 per cent more interaction than standard videos (Source - DemandSage).

Reels are also displayed on the Instagram Explore page, providing you with a chance to reach wider audiences and gain more visibility.

Molly Moore is a PGA Professional based at Reigate Hill Golf Club in Surrey and founder of Girls Golf Excellence, which has been shortlisted in the 2024 England Golf Awards.

Moore uses Instagram reels to engage with the girls from her sessions, as well as their parents, community and potential future participants.

Molly’s top tips for using Instagram reels:

Involve your students
Involving the girls on the input and responsibility of the reels has been really beneficial. They have the camera and take charge! They often come up with some really creative and unique pictures and videos that can be used. Plus, this means they will be super keen to see them once I post them! Of course, parental consent is a must to be able to do this.

Be relatable
The content has to be relatable to my target market. If I started posting about heavy technical swing changes then my audience would lose interest! It’s my aim to make my reels inspire another girl to want to join us.

Get in front of the camera
I try my best to get in front of the camera rather than just having the girls and coaching on show. I do this because it may allow a potential client to get to know me better and gain a new booking.

It’s really important to interact with people and accounts that are part of your target market. Liking and commenting can really contribute to boosting your profile.

Keep them short and sweet
When it comes to editing reels, I always try to keep it no longer than seconds otherwise they will keep swiping. After a training session I will pick some of my favourite clips to put them into a reel because less is more.

Try a video editing app
To save time I like to use a video editing app such as CapCut. I use it as a novice editor and it’s really simple to use. They have templates that you can use which will make your Reels stand out rather than just photos collated into a video.

Use music
Music is also a great way to grab attention – you can really be creative with the timings!

Stay consistent
Try to stay consistent with your posts. It may be hard to grab attention if you are posting infrequently and it will be harder for your Reels and posts to get out there and grab everyone’s attention.

Be social
It’s really important to interact with people and accounts that are part of your target market. Liking and commenting can really contribute to boosting your profile. Plus, people will remember you if you are consistently interacting with them!
