Hutsby wins Be Wiser Insurance Stroke Play Championship

Sam Hutsby was crowned winner of the Be Wiser Insurance Stroke Play Championship at Skylark Golf Club, Whiteley.

The PGA in Hampshire's first major event of the year was held on June 15 with a field of 43 PGA Professionals taking part in the 36-hole tournament, which was sponsored by Peter Cooper Motor Group.

Despite the heat, Hutsby, who is based at Lee-on-the-Solent Golf Club, finished top of the leaderboard after scoring back-to-back rounds of 63 to finish on 12-under-par.

Last year’s winner Lewis Scott (Paulton’s Park Golf Club) and James Ablett (Lee-on-the-Solent GC) shared second place four shots behind.

Reflecting on his victory, Hutsby commented: “I’m extremely delighted to have won the prestigious Hampshire Stroke Play Championship.

“It was great to have that winning feeling again - it’s been a while! After seeing Richard Bland’s breakthrough victory, it’s given me the inspiration to keep chasing my dream of competing back on the Tour, but for the meantime, I am enjoying my time working alongside Kevin Caplehorn and all the members at Lee-on-the Solent golf club as they have given me great support. I’m looking forward to competing more on the PGA circuit.”
