A group of engineers serving their country in Afghanistan have received a batch of golfing equipment from PGA Official Supplier Huxley Golf.
The Mechanical Transport Section (MTMS), who are currently serving with the RAF in Camp Bastion, have been given a Huxley Rotanet, Practice Mat and accessories, to help keep morale high in the sweltering 40 degree heat.
The MTMS consists of mechanical and electrical engineers who are in charge of the majority of the RAF’s vehicles at Camp Bastion. Among their responsibilities are the servicing and repairs of vehicles ranging from Land Rovers to specialist airfield support vehicles.
Paul Huxley, director of Huxley Golf, said: “We hope that this small token of our appreciation and support enables the boys to improve their golf handicaps and practice their bunker shots!”
This initiative is not the first time golf has been used to inspire servicemen working in hostile conditions overseas.
In 2011, former PGA Captains Eddie Bullock and Parnell Reilly joined Ryder Cup winner Colin Montgomerie for a three-day tour of Afghanistan’s British Military bases.
The trio described the occasion, which also received support from Huxley Golf, as a “humbling” and “sensational” experience.
