James Johnstone celebrated a memorable double victory at the Wanstead pro-am, sweeping up both the individual and team prizes.

The Manor of Groves Golf Club assistant won the individual event with a five-under-par round of 64, before bringing home the winning team with a 17-under-par score of 121.

Johnstone said: “Wanstead is one of my favourite courses and the greens were in fantastic condition. I have been playing in a few more events recently and this has helped me to find a bit of form.”

Verulam’s first year assistant Glen Portelli finished two shots behind the leader to take second place, claiming four birdies and dropping one shot along the way.

Third place was shared by two players now in the senior ranks, Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) and Mitch Kierstenson (Penfold Park), together with Jason Levermore (Channels) who all carded two-under-par.

Paul Hetherington (Great Hadham Golf and Country Club) was the only other player to break par in a field of 25. He signed for one-under to take sixth place.

Johnstone was joined by amateurs Nathaniel Gleed, Charlie Dibble and Dilawar Ayal to win the team event by four shots from Nick Moncur (Ingrebourne Links) with Rob Knight, Steve Ellis and former West Ham footballer John Moncur.

Third place at 12-under-par went to Noel Quinn (Whipsnade Park) with Michael Macpherson, Tom Kirtley and Dan Smorthitt.
