In-form Licata doubles up

Giuseppe Licata maintained the winning habit in the latest Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Winter Series Medal at Lilley Brook Golf Club.

The event saw the Cheltenham venue restored to the schedule after a lengthy break but, as far as the head PGA pro from Filton Golf Club was concerned, it was clearly a case of absence making the heart grow fonder.

He posted a two under par round of 67 to record his second victory in succession and finish three shots clear of the chasing pack.

That was headed by a trio comprising Licata’s in-form assistant Mark Pitcher, Cirencester Golf Club’s Luke Gaskins and Martin Liley from Wheathill Golf Club.

Licata’s victory means he is now more than 30 points clear of Brean Golf Club’s Andrew March in the Order of Merit and almost 50 ahead of Pitcher who has now finished tied-second, third and first in successive events.
