It’s Dicco again for win No7

David Dixon burst back into the kind of form that has brought admiration from fellow west region pros to claim yet another success at Torquay.
It was the Enmore Park player’s seventh win in 12 tournaments and followed a weary 14th place in the 36-hole North Wilts pro-am. His lowest previous finish was fourth in the Cornish Festival.
This time he shrugged off challenges from Kevin Harper (Sidmouth), Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Academy) and North Wilts winner Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) to stay ahead by two shots after a three-under return of 66.
On a sweltering day beside the seaside 37-year-old Dixon reached the turn in three-under 32 with birdies at the fifth, eighth and ninth. But he dropped shots at the next two holes before recovering with further birdies at the 14th and 16th. He made another bogey at the par-three 17th before closing with his sixth three on a par four.
Thompson also made six birdie threes but dropped five shots. Harper was steadier with three birdies and two bogeys while Dinsdale made five birdies and was in the reckoning until he double-bogeyed the 293-yard 16th, rated the easiest hole on the course.
PGA Board member David Haines produced a season-best par round of 69 to share fifth with Barry Austin (Crediton), Mark Wiggett (Dudsbury) and Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre). He made one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars.
Home club manager Dan Hendriksen made 17 pars but a double-bogey at the 15th proved costly. At least he had the satisfaction of beating brother Paul (Dinnaton) by two shots.
Thompson led the Thrifty team of Sally Spokes, Ian Rowlands and Lesley Rowe to team success on 13-under-par 125. They beat Wiggett’s Britvic side of Matthew Whitcombe, Pete Raven and Ben Raven by one stroke on countback. Dinsdale-led Devon Garden Machinery with Charlotte Dommett, Jake Dommett and Fiona Parsons were third one shot behind.
