Jason Leads Way In Leeds Cup

Denbigh's Jason Shufflebotham set the first round pace with a flawless four-under-par 65 in the Leeds Cup, professional golf’s oldest trophy, at Cobble Hall.

Hot on his heels going into tomorrow’s final shoot-out is a posse of seven players a shot off the pace including the irrepressible David Shacklady, from Lancashire club Mossock Hall, who’s been making a mark on the senior circuits.

His only error was a bogey on the penultimate hole and he was sharing figures with Snainton Golf Centre’s Alex Belt, who is regularly in contention.

Meanwhile, defending champion Michael Ramsden was on level par and tying 16th

Ringway’s David Brunton, recent winner of the Manchester Open, was in a crowded group on one-over which figured double past Leeds Cup champion Garry Houston, from Carden Park.

A shot back was former European Tour ace Phil Archer who is attached to Poulton Park.
