Jeff Reynes will play in the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge this year at his home course - and one that he has close historical family connections to.
Captain Reynes and PGA professional Paul Dennis are the host pairing for the North West qualifying event to be held at Dunham Forest Golf Club in Cheshire on August 25.
And for Reynes it will be a special occasion as it was his father-in-law Sydney Woolf who was one of the founders of the groundbreaking venue in 1962.
“He and his friends created Dunham as a non-denominational golf club, it’s a very open environment. It says so in the principles. We have a long history and association with the club,” explained Reynes.
“I’m delighted to be captain of Dunham, it’s a real privilege. The club has been very successful.
“We think we’re one of the leading courses in the Manchester area, and certainly in the Cheshire area, we pride ourselves in that, the course is in excellent condition. We spend some time in July and early August preparing it.”
Reynes, a 24 handicapper who works as a company director selling doors to the building trade, will be taking a break from his captaincy duties to partner Dennis for the competition which has a trip to Morocco for the winners.
The pair will be hoping to reach the £22,000 final, in association with Golfplan, which will be held between November 21-22 at Mazagan Beach Resort, Casablanca.
“It’s also been a privilege to work with our PGA pro Paul Dennis and I’m looking forward to playing with him on the day,” said Reynes, who will just have turned 67 before the event. “I play three or four times a week, but I’m not a long-term golfer, I’m not an athlete, but I enjoy being out there, but my job is to look after visitors and members which I enjoy doing,” he added.
