Joanne Hodge celebrated becoming a fully qualified PGA Professional by winning the fourth round of the WPGA One-Day Series at South Herts Golf Club.
Hodge, of Bristol’s Windmill Golf Academy, topped the leaderboard by one shot after being the only player in the event to go under par.
The former England international and Gloucestershire county player shot a one under par round of 73 at the North London venue to finish ahead of Sarah Smith, of Saffron Walden Golf Club in Essex, and Sian Evans of Kent’s Kings Hill Golf Club.
And Hodge revealed that the win - her third in all in the competition - had extra significance.
“I finally passed my PGA exams and I’m now fully qualified, I got my card though the day after the event at South Herts,” she said.
“It was my first competition as a ‘proper’ professional and I won it.”
Hodge began coaching in 2012 and started the PGA course two years later.
And while she plans to play in another three rounds of the One Day Series, her long term plans differ slightly.
“I aim to continue coaching but also to get into custom fitting for a big company, I’m waiting for a job to come up,” she explained.
“But I intend to play the last three rounds of the One Day Series and I hope for a strong finish to the year.
“I hope to get enough points together to play in the LET Access Series at Stoke by Nayland in September.
“But I was delighted to win at South Herts, I don’t play all the event so it was good to get the result. I’ve won in previous years at Little Aston and Salisbury but not at South Herts.”
