Staysure Tour player John Kemp fired a hole in one to help him secure victory at the John O’Gaunt Pro-Am.
Kemp, 50, holed out with a 5-iron from 176 yards on the fourth. The Woburn member went on to record a solitary bogey at the 11th but responded with birdies on 13 and 17.
Kemp closed out with a par and signed for a three-under-par 68. The score proved good enough for a one-shot win, although Mark Stokes (Bishop’s Stortford) came close to edging him.
For a while Stokes, who started at the tenth, also sat at three-under. But he dropped a shot at his 15th and was unable to make birdie on his closing hole, a par-5.
Stokes and Mark Wharton tied for second at two-under while a cluster of seven players shared fourth place.
There was a five-way tie on 11-under in the team event. But the quartet led by Oliver Fullerton (Girton) were the winners after shooting the low back-nine tally of 65.
Over 50 teams played in what was another hugely successful John O’Gaunt Pro-Am day.
