Cornwall amateur Mark Jones will go from treating the professionals to playing alongside them when he takes part in the Lombard Trophy Final at Gleneagles.

Jones, of Lanhydrock Golf Club, will make the whopping 1,000-mile round trip to Scotland with club professional Alister Tawse for the £43,600 event which is being played over the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles between September 1-2.

But while Jones is a keen player, his job as a chiropractor often involves dealing with golfing injuries.

And he will put his own advice into practice when he makes the trip to the famous Ryder Cup venue.

“I always tell my patients never to sit in a car for more than 10 hours,” said the 15 handicapper.

“So I’m going to heed my own advice and we’ll be breaking the journey to Scotland up with an overnight stop.

“I don’t think any of the other teams will have as far to travel as we will.

“I don’t think Rory McIlroy has these problems! But we’re both looking forward to it.

“I was at Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup last year as a fan, so it’ll be amazing to actually play there this time.”

Jones works in Lostwitheal - which lost its golf club last year meaning he moved to Lanhydrock.

And he finds golfers form a large part of his work.

“I treat them quite a lot, back injuries are common but ‘golfer’s elbow’ is another complaint,” he said.

“We have a couple of professionals but I don’t think they come to me specifically because they know I’m a keen player. I treat a lot of sports injuries.”

Tawse became head pro at Lanhydrock last year after a break from the game.

And the pair booked their place in the final after winning the qualifying round at Bovey Castle Golf Club in Devon in early July.

Jones admits he has been trying to fit preparations for the Gleneagles final in to his regular working life.

“It’s a bit of a balancing act, I would’ve liked to have played more but I also run my own business,” he said.

“I’ve also had a holiday, then Alister’s had his holiday.

“But it’ll be worth it just to get up there and play, it’s very exciting.”
