Katrina Holford will stage a renewed challenge for the WPGA One Day series after winning the second round at Dunham Forest Golf Club.

Holford, of Chase Golf Club, recorded a level par round of 72 at the Cheshire venue to win by one shot ahead of Alison Gray of Ormskirk Golf Club.

It was a victory that changed Holford’s mind about making this year’s series a priority.

She finished second in the opening event at Little Aston Golf Club in Birmingham - only missing out on victory to ex-US Women's Open champion and Solheim Cup star Alison Nicholas.

And her latest display has given The Belfry-trained Holford the taste for more.

“I wasn’t sure how I was going to get on in this year’s series,” she explained.

“I missed most of last year when I damaged tendons in a hand injury but I’ve been working hard on my game in the last couple of months.

“I wanted to play more this year, but at the same time I wanted to see how my form was. I’ve been very pleased to get a second place at Little Aston and win at Dunham Forest.

“It means I’ve had a change of heart about the rest of the series and now I want to play as many as I can.”

Holford has been based at the Staffordshire club for over four years and admits she is torn between playing and coaching.

“I have a real passion for coaching thanks to my PGA training at The Belfry,” she said.

“But I’d like to get a balance between that and playing as well.

“So far, I’ve surprised myself this year.

“I didn’t expect to do as well as I did at Little Aston so now I’d like to make the One Day Series a priority.”

Holford made a crucial birdie at the 17th hole while Gray bogeyed the 18th hole to finish on one over par.

“The conditions were good and the greens were in great condition,” said Holford.
