It is never over until the final whistle is a well worn adage and it was never truer than at Athenry as Niall Kearney stormed in at
the death.
His winning 67 pushed John Kelly and Brian McElhinney off the
top of the leaderboard in the PGA pro-am, at the Co Galway venue.
Kearney lit up his round with eagle three at the 10th hole where his drive was followed by a super rescue club approach to the green from where he got down from 10 feet.
The Royal Dublin former amateur international pencilled in birdie threes at the first and fourth holes but his run was halted when he bogeyed the par four seventh.
However, he recovered that shot with birdie four at the eighth hole to turn in two-under-33.
When the eagle landed Kearney was coasting at four-under but he gave back those two shots by making bogey five at the 14th and 16th holes.
A birdie two at 17 was the savour for Kearney as he sneaked past Bolger and McElhinney.
