Keely Chiericato recored her first WPGA One Day Series victory of the season after fine tuning her game during the event at Chestfield Golf Club.
This year’s WPGA Professional Championship winner won by two shots at the Kent venue ahead of Suzanne Dickens of Peterborough’s Thorpe Wood Golf Course.
But Manston Golf Centre professional Chiericato had to recover from a double bogey at the par five second hole before going on to make a three under par round of 68.
She finished with two birdies and admitted she needed to correct her choice of club after a shaky start.
The victory also saw her move to the top of the WPGA Order of Merit.
“I’ve been struggling with my driver, I played in an event beforehand, the Surrey Open at Cuddington Golf Club and I really struggled to get off the tee in round two - and I’ve been struggling ever since,” explained Chiericato.
“I hit one bad drive here, put it away and was a hitting the fairways with irons for the rest of the day. But I’ve played there before, so I knew I didn’t really need a driver to get around there.
“I was quite happy after that, I was confident enough with the rest of my game.
“There were a couple of missed opportunities, but I had a good back nine and the rest of the round went really well. And the scorecard reflected that which was quite nice.
“This has been my best year so far, but I hadn’t even thought about the Order of Merit until it was mentioned.
“The PGA Championship has been the highlight of my season.
“I haven’t played that many One Day Series events as I’ve been playing on the Access Series and unfortunately I don’t think I can play in the last one.”
Chiericato was virtually on home territory for the event, which was the sixth in this year’s series.
“I live in Whitstable which is about five minutes down the road from Chestfield,” she said.
“I was always going to play in this one with me being so close.”
