Kemble cracks it

Glen Kemble, a senior sales executive with Golf Direct UK, won the Manor of Groves Pro-Am with a round of three-under-par 68 that included four birdies. Kemble represented England as amateur in 1985-86. His professional career has taken him to Grims Dyke, Wyke Green and North Middlesex before he spent six years as head professional at Mount Pleasant.

Runner-up was the consistent Ian Ellis (pictured) of Costessey Park, currently fourth in the PGA of England (East) Order of Merit with three of the six scheduled events completed. Ellis scored two-under-par 69 with four birdies and a double.

Three other players broke par. Jason Groat (Denver), Mitch Kierstenson (Penfold Park) and Daniel Coughlan (Wyke Green) were all one-under. Ben Cooper of Bishop’s Stortford had 16 pars with one bogey and one birdie to take sixth place.

Host professional Ben Goodey brought home the winning team of Jack Spong, Gareth Thomas and Sam Faulkner with a score of 19-under-par 123. Runners-up were Ellis, Matt Johnstone, Bob Johnstone and Peter Wigg with 127. Third place went to Kierstenson, Ross Leir, Kevin Crouch and Mick Moriarty with 128. There was a field of 23.
