Kent PGA celebration at Wildernesse

The PGA in Kent held a major celebration in conjunction with the Wildernesse Club’s annual pro-am, when the Sevenoaks club hosted a lunch for the county’s PGA Professionals and supporters.

Twenty eight teams played the immaculately prepared Open Regional Qualifying course and the event was marked by some top class golf from the county’s top PGA pros.

European Senior Tour regular Bob Cameron (Sundridge Park) shot a birdie-packed five-under-par 67 to win the Pro-Am, pushing Benn Barham’s (PGolfCoaching@Pedham) bogey-free round of 68 into second place to claim the £750 top prize.

Shooting four birdies and a bogey, Philip Beever (Redlibbets) tied for third spot on 69 with Paul Sherman (Langley Park) whose round included six birdies.

The fund raising lunch on behalf of The PGA in Kent helped generate some additional funds for both existing and new tournaments for PGA Assistant and PGA Trainee Professionals in Kent in 2016. 

The highlight of the lunch itself saw Ian Lewis (Knole Park) walk away with an Omega Seamaster watch courtesy of Watchfinder.

In a shotgun start, Cameron started on the third hole in the group behind Barham whose flawless four birdie 68 was in complete contrast to Cameron’s more adventurous round of 67.

Delighted with his third win of the season, Cameron said: “After some really poor putting this year, I’ve switched to left below right and I’m holing putts again.

"It was a bit more up and down than I’d have liked, but after some good opening putts I was going for every opportunity and it paid off.

"Wildernesse was in terrific shape so some good scoring was on the cards, and David Green and the club laid on another great day out for us.

"I’ve one Seniors event left to play in December, the Mauritius Commercial Bank Seniors Open, and I’m 63 in January, so edging out a star player like Benn by a stroke has boosted my confidence and made my round that much more special!”
