It was just like another county medal for Brickhampton Court’s Ross Langdon and Chipping Sodbury’s Giuseppe Licata in the second round of the West Region Sprint Series over the Blue and Red nines at Cumberwell Park.

The pair have dominated the Gloucester and Somerset Order of Merit this winter with Langdon holding the edge. This time they could not be separated and are now joint leaders in the four-event Sprint OOM with 135 points.

Both returned three-under-par 68 to beat Liam O'Sullivan (South Cerney Golf Course) by one shot while another Wiltshireman Gregory Davies (Basset Down) was the only other player to break par with 70.

After early drizzle the main hazard was a blustery strong north-west wind which affected the scoring.

Toby Hunt (St Mellons), joint winner of the opening event at Weston-super-Mare, and Kieron Fowler (Lyme Regis), who was making his west region debut, claimed the final cheques on level par.

They were followed a shot behind by two of the most talented women golfers in the region from Wales. Ladies European Tour player Lydia Hall (Hensol Golf Academy) and Chloe Rogers (Celtic Manor Resort) returned one-over rounds of 72.

Alex Todd (Farrington Park), Louis Boston (Windmill Golf Academy) and Daniel Toogood (Weston-super-Mare) were a shot further back.

Last year’s Sprint champion Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) was a notable absentee as he attempted to qualify for the Europro Tour at Frilford Heath.
